Biography

Born in 1936, Jamalpur (Bangladesh), Haloi completed his graduation from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata in 1956. He worked as a Senior Artist in the Department of Archaeology, Government of India, at the Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad during 1957-63. He taught at the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata from 1963 to 1993. He is a recipient of the Rabindra Bharati Award, Kolkata in 1970 and was honoured with Shiromani Puraskar in 1991. Besides several solo shows, his works have also been exhibited in many group shows including the ones at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata; ‘Contemporary Art’, Hong Kong, 1994; Bose Pacia Modern, New York, 1995. Two documentary films have been made on him by the Kolkata Doordarshan and the Government of West Bengal. A volume titled. ‘Landmarks of Western Art, Oriental Word’ has been published on his works. He lives and works in Kolkata.
