BiographyBorn in 1956, Khoai, Tripura She studied painting from wide range of art education institutions, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan and M. S. University, Baroda. She has also been an artist in residence at the École d’Art, Aix-en-Provence, France. She has been honoured with the Bombay Art Society Award, Mumbai (1980), II Bharat Bhavan Biennial Award (1988), British Council Visitorship grant (1989), French Govt. Scholarship (1991) and Honourable Mention Award, Asian Art Biennial, Dhaka, Bangladesh (1997) to mention some. She has held several solo shows since 1992 regularly in Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi and Kolkata. Her major solo shows include: ‘Where the Sand meets the Sky’, New York and ‘New Narratives: Contemporary Art from India’, Chicago in 2007; ‘Route Map of Experience’, at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi (2003); ‘The Mind is its Own Place’, New York (2002) and at Ecole d’Art, Aix-en-Province, Paris (1995). Chakravarty is probably the only Indian artist to show at the prestigious Drawing Centre in New York (1998). She has been part of prestigious group shows in India and abroad like ‘Crossing Generations: Divergence’, Mumbai (2003); ‘Moving Ideas: A Contemporary Dialogue with India’, Vancouver (2001); ‘Boundlessly various and Everything Simultaneously’, curated by Peter Nagy, New York (2000); ‘Fire and Life’ in Canberra after an Indo-Australian residency in Calcutta and Brisbane (1997); ‘Watercolours: A Broader Spectrum’, Mumbai and ‘Women Artists of India: A Celebration of Independence’, Oakland in 1995. ‘India: Contemporary Art’, Amsterdam and ‘Indian Eclectics’, Sponsored by French Embassy and Sanskriti Prathisthan, New Delhi in 1989 to name a few. Jayasri Burman
Jayasri Burman
BiographyBorn in Kolkata in 1960 and studied at Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan between 1977-79. Later, she joined Visual College of Arts, Kolkata in 1979-80 and then went to France to learn print making under the guidance of Monsieur Ceizerzi in 1984. She has held ten solo shows in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Bangalore between 1985 and 2004 and has also participated in various group shows across India and abroad including Bharat Bhavan biennale, Bhopal in 1986, the International Triennale, ‘Intergraphic’, Germany in 1987 and Bollywood show, London Selfindges in 2001, Hong Kong & Los Angeles in 2001. For outstanding merit in the Annual exhibition she was awarded by the college of Visual Arts in Tempera in 1979 and is also a National Award holder besides other prestigious honours. Kishor Shinde
BiographyBorn in 1958, completed his Diploma in painting from MSU, Baroda. He has participated in various solo and group shows and exhibitions in Delhi and Hyderabad and has also, in addition is an awardee of Lalit Kala Akademi and the Gujarat State Lalit Kala award. BiographyBorn in 1939, Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Manu Parekh received his Diploma in Drawing and Painting from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1962. He has received several awards including ones instituted by the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata in 1971 & 1991; the President’s Silver Plaque from All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society, New Delhi in 1972. He is also a recipient of the National Award by Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 1982. The Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri in 1992. He has held solo shows across India and abroad and also participated in several group shows including III , IV & V International Triennale, Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi in 1975, 1978 & 1981; ‘Modern Indian Painting’, Hirschorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C.; ‘Contemporary Indian Art’, Festival of India, Royal Academy of Art, London, 1982; ‘Benaras Landscape’, Singapore, 1990. His most recent solo shows include ‘Banaras’, Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi, 2004 and with Berkeley Square Gallery, London, 2006. His works have also featured in the Christie’s and Sotheby’s auctions. A documentary film ‘Dwitya’ was made in 1992 on him and his artist wife Madhvi Parekh. It was sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi. He lives and works in New Delhi.

BiographyMurali’s canvas reconstructs visual reality drawing attention to the multiple angles of being. Born 1966 in Thrissur, Kerala, Murali presently lives and works in Bangalore, Karnataka. He has completed his BFA and MFA from Kala Bhawan, Santiniketan in 1992 and 1995 respectively. His has held his solo shows at Ahmedabad presented by Kerala Lalit Kala Akademi in 2000 and at Maharashtra in 2000 & 2001. He has held 3 two-man shows at Cochin in 2007 & 2003 and 1 at Ahmedabad in 1997. He has participated in over 20 group shows across India and aboard, lastly featuring at ‘Emerging India’, presented by Art Alive Gallery and S.A. Fine Arts, London, held at London in 2007. He has received many Awards including State Lalit Kala Academy Award in 1997-98; Kanoria Scholarship for Print Making in 1997; Cultural Scholarship by Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi during 1993-95. Nantu Bihari
BiographyNantu Bihari (b 1977) completed his MVA and BVA in sculpture from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. His works have been regularly selected in the annual art exhibitions of the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. He has been awarded several times by the State Academy and the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata for the best exhibit in Sculpture. He has also participated in the workshop conducted by KHOJ in 2008, Gen Next workshop at ECA, Kolkata and a workshop organized by Lalit Kala Akademi in Tripura. He lives and works in Kolkata. BiographyBorn in 1946, Nerur Par (Maharashtra), Kolte received his diploma from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1968. He later joined Sir J. J. School of Art in 1972 and taught for 22 years till he retired in 1994. He has held many solo shows across the country and abroad and participated in group shows including Contemporary Art in Maharashtra, 1975; VI International Triennale, Lalit Kala Akademi; I National Bharat Bhavan Biennale, Bhopal in 1986; Six Indian Painters, Yugoslavia, Ankara & Istanbul in 1985; Contemporary Artists from SAARC countries, NGMA, 1992; Three Artists, Hong Kong, 1995; Galerie Foundation for Indian Artists, Amsterdam, 1996; ‘Modern Indian Art’, New York, 2001; ‘Tatva–The Elements’, London, 2006. In 2001 his solo show was organised by Galerie Mueller & Plate in Germany. He lives and works in Mumbai.
