Born 1957 in New Delhi, Kanchan studied art for her Foundation Year at Weisensee Kunst Hochschule in Berlin and BFA in painting and printmaking from Delhi College of Art, New Delhi. During 1979-80 she was a Guest student in printmaking at the College of Art, Chile. Recipient of a Grant from Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi; French Government Scholarship, Ecole Des Beaux, Paris and Fellowship from the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Delhi she was a Lecturer at the College of Art, Delhi between 1986-2005. To-date she has held 13 solo shows in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Nepal and Japan and has also participated in various group shows across India and overseas including Norwegian International Print show, Triennale India; International Print Biennale at France, Bhopal, Yugoslavia, Japan, and the UK. She is a founder member of Indian Printmakers Guild and co-curated See Through with Sushma Bahl and Combine for Gallery Alternations and Vis-Vis. The awards to her credit include those of the Yuva Mahotsava; Sahitya Kala Parishad; Womens All India A.I.F.A.C.S and International Print Biennale from Bradford, UK.
