Art Alive Gallery is proud to present eminent artist S. Harsha Vardhana’s recent works. The mixed media works are replete with the artist’s well-known usage of signs such as the inverted triangles. They have syntax of their own whereby they cover a travesty of time, space and form. The set of 25 works do not have any specific title or are bound by a single thematic scheme. Even though signs like the inverted triangles are a recurring motif, there is no inherent symbolism as the artist seeks to play with the visual perceptions of the viewers since for him, paintings or works of art should not be approached with the reference to something that we already know. Thus, the absence of any titles for any of the art-works. The visual language of the artworks speaks a visceral language of abstraction that leaves their narrative structure and meanings fluid and lucid at the same time.

"Harsha’s works invoke a certain movement through space and time. Though he paints in the old school way of abstract painting, there is however a contemporary touch to the works. This makes the narrative of the paintings even more dense and at the same time very personal" Sunaina Anand, Director Art Alive Gallery.

As the artist himself describes his works - “My works are not intended to communicate a particular message to the viewer. They are the result of an intense and sustained visual dialogue with my media. The experience of creation of the works is distinct from that of a beholder who sees and visualizes them. The experience of the beholder may be enhanced by a similar sustained visual dialogue with the works rather than seeking the 'meaning' by some verbal explanation from me. Both the experiences are distinct and can be satisfying in myriad and manifold ways. The beholder should attempt to find what they mean to him or her rather than wanting to know what they meant to me while in the process of creation. There may be some recognisable geometric forms which are mere signs and not symbols. The works may be considered as ideations of colour, form, space and dimension."

"The exhibition tries to engage the viewers in the dialectics of space, time, form and abstraction. The abstraction of the artworks evoke a deep meditative perception which make the viewers negotiate their own meanings and imbibe on a journey of self-discovery through these set of works". Sunaina Anand, Director Art Alive Gallery.

The exhibition is thus a sustained attempt to engage the viewer in the dialectics of space, time, form and abstraction. The abstraction of the artworks evoke a deep meditative perception which make the viewers negotiate their own meanings and imbibe on a journey of self-discovery through these set of works.
